After all this time? Always.

deathly hallows dress

It feels like it has been forever since I've posted an oufit (in fact, I haven't posted one since 2014 unless you count my Misty cosplay). But every time I post one it involves a good pop culture reference - this time my clothing pays homage to the Harry Potter fandom.

It was through Harry Potter (which I didn't actually get into until my late teens) that I discovered what a fandom was. I had fangirled over series as I grew up - most notably Hollyoaks and The Babysitter's Club - but had no one to talk obsessively about these things with and regularly received an eye-brow raise by people who "liked it but not that much". Thanks to Harry Potter I disocvered a community of people who also loved to talk in depth about their favourite TV show.

Because of this it has remained one of my fandoms which means the most to me.

So when I found this Deathly Hallow dress at one of the stalls at DeeCon back in March I pretty much knew I had to buy it there and then. And I am so sorry but I cannot remember the name of the stall (it was in Mono and was one of the corner tables by the fire exit!) but a quick Google comes up with several results where you can purchase a similar one. There's BlackMilk themselves, Ali Express and here's one on eBay

This was part of daytime outfit so I teamed it with a slouchy staple denim shirt which I bought in New Looks over a year ago. Along with some white bangles which I've owned for years, plus red faux-converse from New Look. I've also worn this on a night out but buttoned up the shirt and tied it at my waist.

Make-up wise I am wearing my 'daily face' (Urban Decay naked, Illamasqua concealer, Gosh eyeliner and B. mascara) along with one of my favourite all-time lipsticks Fiend from Urban Decay. One my nails is the simple white shade Coconut from Barry M.

What was one of your earliest fandoms and what does it mean to you today?

  1. I love the dress! Harry Potter is also my first real fandom! I didn't get into it from the start. The first book was published in my home country when I was ten years old but I think I only started reading about two years later! But since them I am obsessed! I read the books a zillion times, both in German and English and I even started reading them in Italian lately. Same for the movies! Harry Potter was a very long time my only fandom until I discovered Game of Thrones and the A Song of Ice and Fire books. However, Harry Potter will forever be my number one, as to me there are no comparable books out there!

  2. Harry Potter was my first, and probably my only! I started reading the first book when I was only six... I can't actually remember when I first read it, so it's always been a part of my life. I'm dying for this dress from Black Milk, ever since they brought out the Harry Potter collection I've been lusting over everything! And I am not usually one to lust over clothes! xo

  3. This is such a great dress! I've always lusted over the Black Milk Harry Potter range but never really thought to look for more affordable versions, I've been slacking on the fandom fashion front - need to fix this! x
